Trends:Exotic Tribal Trend

Graphic prints of all kinds are big for this spring and summer, and one trend in particular is the tribal trend. The films "The African Queen" and "Out of Africa" may have come to mind for many seeing the runway shows last September as the tribal trend was in full force - from safari-inspired vests to exotic animal prints - this look is perfect for the warm weather seasons. Additional artisanal inspiration such as beading, tie-dye, and crochet also made their mark on womenswear on the spring/summer 2012 runways. Accessories left their own impact with raffia, leather fringe, and patterned shoes, inspired by exotic animal skins.
How do you wear this look? Have fun with it. If you own a khaki suit for work, pair it with a crisp white button-down, ankle-cuff pumps and a raffia purse. Continue the trend by wearing a woven leather belt. Do you own any item in zebra, giraffe, or another animal print? If you have an animal-print pencil skirt, pair it with a simple top in a coordinating color (normally brown, black or white), and a solid shoe. Then, have fun with your accessories, such as a colorful tribal or ikat-printed bracelet or handbag.
What are the items you should have in your closet - the timeless ways to integrate this exotic tribal trend anytime you want? Own a khaki or military green safari jacket, a khaki skirt, several crisp white dress shirts or camp shirts, some long-inseam shorts you can chicly cuff, and a leather belt.
The Michael Kors runway show for spring/summer 2012, directly inspired by his recent trip to South Africa, was one of the most-cited shows in the spring magazines for the tribal look. Donna Karen was the second most popular tribal show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in September 2011. Thanks to website PopSugar you can see a wonderful tribal trend summary from the spring 2012 runways, here.
 My Picks:
Michael Kors
Donna Karan
Alberta Feretti
Burberry Prorsum
