From dramatic cat eyes to citrus lips, let's take a look at some of the hottest makeup trends for summer 2012.

 

Bright lips

Once again this summer, bold, bright lips are sizzling. From tangerine to cotton candy pink and deep burgundy to cherry red, stock up on lipstick for the summer. When you are wearing high impact lip color, keep the rest of your makeup very neutral and clean. That's the best way to make your lips really pop.

Double-edged cat eyes

When you get made up for a summer party or a special date, consider cat eye makeup. The cat eye look is hot once again, and this season, the double-edge cat eye is extremely trendy. So wing out your liner on both the bottom and the top to achieve this sultry look. Experiment with metallic eyeliner, as well as deep shades of plum and aqua blue.

Dramatic lashes

For the past year or so, it's been all about the brows, but this summer the lashes are what's important. Apply two coats of volumizing, lengthening mascara to get long, thick lashes that really stand out. Also, don't be afraid to try false eyelashes and experiment with eyelash extensions. When it comes to eye shadow, metallics -- from frosty silver to deep gunmetal to shimmery bronze -- are ideal for summertime.

Mint nail polish

Mint green is hot in fashion and hits the beauty scene in the form of nail polish. Mint looks just as fabulous when you are wearing crisp white fashions as it does when you are wearing your favorite LBD.

The natural look

This summer it isn't all about high glam. For everyday makeup, stick to the natural look. Skip the heavy foundation and just even out your skin tone with a touch of tinted moisturizer. Brown eyeliner and a coat of brown mascara are enough on the eyes. Light pink (or peach) blush and clear lip gloss finish off the natural summer look. To make your eyes look bigger and clearer, add a little bit of white eyeliner near the inner corners. Carry plenty of blotting tissues with you to keep shiny skin at bay and maintain a fresh, natural look all day.
